We have no loft and the understairs cupboard could be freed up for a lot more storage if I could remove the coats & shoes from it.
Option 1: Ask my partner to reduce her coat and shoe count. Unlikely.
Option 2: THere's a great big space above the stairs. Can I rig up a mains powered winch to lift a coat hanger and shoe rack up and down. I reckon I could put it in if only I could find a suitable winch. They all seem to be industrial sized or dc versions for caravans. Anyone know of a suitable winch? Cheap and cheerful would be preferable: it doesn't need to lift a tonne!
You mean something like this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2000LBS-POWER-CABLE-WINCH-12V-ELECTRIC-REMOTE-CONTROL_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ65Q3a12Q7c66Q3a2Q7c39Q3a1Q7c72Q3a1171Q7c240Q3a1318Q7c301Q3a1Q7c293Q3a1Q7c294Q3a50QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem3ca2e327aaQQitemZ260430833578QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories
There are plenty more on eBay if that one doesn't float your boat.

At our house, we have 2 driveways. The extra driveway runs next to our house and is fairly long. Would it be ok to rent it out to someone who owns a boat or RV and needs to store it? Would I need a permit or anything special to legally do this? Also, if anything happens to their boat or RV while on my property, would their insurance cover it or would it have to be mine?
Don’t need a permit, but need to find out if local ordinance precludes having RV or boats in driveway–some do. You should have a simple lease agreement and should state that they must insure item and that you are not responsible to any damage to it while parked there. Always collect rent in advance, usually get 3-6 months at a time with such items. Require that they have to move it upon your request, with 24 hours advance notice to them, or that you have permission to move it with 24 hours advance notice to them. That way if you need access, you can get it.

I live in Mass, will the state help pay for private cord blood storage for low income families?
Not that I know of . . . cord blood storage is not considered medically necessary. You can donate it but I do not believe that the state will pay for you to store it for your own use if necessary.
You might want to try calling New England Cord Blood Bank – they are local and many couples opt to donate to them (we wanted to but they do not take from twins for whatever reason). They have a program to open their bank of donated cord blood to low-income families in need of matches etc . . . and a program where you can apply for an $800 grant towards the cost to store your own. Being in Newton and being a local company, it wouldn't hurt to ask them.

with the stuff. I have a small storage unit and I am totally wasting money by paying every month (and the rate keeps rising), but there is nowhere for me to put the stuff and I am considering discarding it-even though there are some valuable items. Not sure what to do-would like to hear from others who have stuff in storage and where they are at with it.
oh yeah. the same thing happened to me. eventually, i just let it go because it cost too much to try and keep it. sure i miss stuff i can't ever get, but the photos, etc., i kept with me.
can you add onto your domicile or place it with someone else until you can sort it out? i'd say you should definitely go through it and discard what you can do without. stuff like photos, heirlooms, etc should be in the house with you just in case. it definitely isn't worth the stress. you may miss it once in awhile, but you will be glad to have that weight off your shoulders.

Thank You!
This is wat the wanted ad says "P/T Customer Service/Sales Representative for local Self Storage. Must be Friendly,Professional & Reliable. Hourly + Bonuses!! Weekends a must. then it says email or fax resume"
We’re always looking first and foremost for people who want the job. If you can convince the employer that you are interested and want to do a great job it will go a long way in piquing their interest.
Show your enthusiasm for your work. Instead of just listing jobs you’ve had, show your passion and pride in what you’ve accomplished in each job. Ask yourself what you’re proud of in each role, these make great bullet points.
Your resume should show that you both have the skills to do the job, but the desire to do it well. If you can show real interest and drive, you’ll stand out from the bland, cookie cutter lists most applicants are turning in.
