Keeping damp away from your boat when in storage

Posted by admin on Jul-30-2008

Some boats get mould inside the roof at winter time when they are stored away and not in use. You may have heard of using using plates of salt – which works to some extent but what other options are there?

Damp-Rid works like the salt, only better and most hardware stores/home centers sell it. It will need to be checked and possibvly refilled a couple times over the winter, but it should do great for keeping the moisture down, as long as the boat is covered tight to keep as much moisture out as possible.

Any other suggestions ?

A better idea is to buy a de-humidifier. They're basically a fridge with a motor/fan pulling air over the cold coils, condensing the moisture into a removable container. They usually have a settable humidistat (like a thermostat only for humidity not temperature)
